Candy - Chihuahua/Fox Terrier Young Adult
Candy was raised by a teen as a 1st dog owner. She had no routines and was not comfortable with new situations being a puppy raised during COVID-19. Now her owner has gone to College. Her mother takes care of Candy but she does travel.
Type of Barker- Barks as fear of unfamiliar people, dogs, or situations. Eating- Very fussy eater. Hoards food and hides kibble pieces. Potty Breaks-Fairly good about doing her business outside but not on walks. Bad Habits- Growls at and runs away from strangers. Major doorbell issues. Jumps around on a leash if distracted. Approach- We did a lot of sound desensitization with videos of sirens, door knocking, dogs barking, etc. and left the radio for her to hear different voice. Trained her to sit in a dog carrier bag and go out to more places. Results- Candy is becoming calmer and more confident as well as be respectful and trusting of strangers and other dogs. "Thanx for taking care of Candy again. We are so appreciative to have Candy stay with you. We would not trust Candy with anyone else. You guys know her better than we do...what she needs and get better every visit." |
