Icelandic Horse Experiences
& Foundational Training for Owners

​Visitors come from down the road or travel from other parts of WA State. 
​Some even fly in from other states to come see us.  
Minimum height: 4 ft 6 inches- 6 ft  
​
Weight limit: 150-180 lbs depending on horse to ride. 
1.5- 2.0 hr

-Some want to get the most out of an upcoming Icelandic Horse vacation or just back from one.
​-A few have a dream of Icelandic horse ownership but are not sure how to go about it.  
-Others want to take their riding and horsemanship overall to the next level w/ an Icelandic. 
We can customize the program to suit your specific needs with the Avondale Icelandics or yours 
2 person
minimum. If you are not coming a pair of riders, we may be able to find another w notice. 
Note: We cannot help those needing competing or showing experience.  That is not our speciality.
But for who want to an amazing experience being connected with a horse and for owners who need a mentor that will help you with every aspect of your journey, you have found the right place.

Breed and Rider Educational Experiences
  • Icelandic Horse Breed Basics: Learn about their history, character, and what makes the breed special.
  • Icelandic Horse Gaits: From a demonstration on the ground and in the saddle to how to recognize the many different gaits of an Icelandic Horse.
  • Essential Tack, Rider Assessment & Groundwork Warm-up: From tack selection to checking your balance, hands, and leg position as well as warm-up exercises with your horse to saddle choices, we create awareness and provide recommendations to make you successful before you get in the saddle. ​
  • Icelandic Riding Experience: Ride 1 or 2 Icelandic horses in our 60-foot round arena and on the mini track at a Walk/Tolt.  Ride with an instructor on trails leading as thru transitions, tempo/rhythm, responsiveness, turns, etc.
  • Horse/Human Enrichment- Horse Grooming and Massage, Horse Feeding in the Pasture, Horse Training Tricks​

Foundational Training or Re-starting for Horse Owners:
  • Natural Horse-Keeping of Pairs and the Herd: How to use corral panels, hot wiring as well as feeding without quarrels.
  • Training Area Options: How to build a covered round pen, mini track, long track, etc.
  • Saddle Options for Icelandic Horses: Dressage, Treeless, Gaited, Hybrids, and more.
  • Bit Options for Icelandic Horses: Kimberwick, Snaffles- Jointed or Single Port, Curb Bit, Gaited, Bitless.
  • Gait Training and Conditioning: Training your horse to gait smoother and more consistently using Ground Poles.
  • Dancing with Icelandics: Learn to read a horse's personality and body language doing groundwork on a lead rope and at liberty in the round pen including in-hand dressage.
