Registration, Cancellation, and No Show Policy
To sign up for a class, pre-payment is required to secure your monthly spot. Cash or Check Only. Paid at Last Monthly Lesson before Monthly Start. $40 Fee for NSF. Credit Cards like VISA can be processed through PayPal. $5 processing fee per lesson. https://paypal.me/AvondaleIcelandics?locale.x=en_US NOTE: Minimum of 2 participants required or class may be cancelled or rescheduled before session starts. No Refunds for Cancellations or No Shows. Think of this as a live scheduled performance (ie. concert, sports game, etc.) You are paying for a spot at that specific time. It prevents others from signing up and commits to a class being full. There are limited spots of 2-4 riders and only a few sessions a week. If informed of a scheduling issue a week or even 72 hours is ideal, an attempt to have your spot taken by another student) as well as find an opening in another class spot in the same month. No guarantees. No 2nd time or private makeups. It defeats the purpose of group exercises and the use of instructor's time. Weather While the track is uncovered, the barn, covered round pen, and trails provide protection, be prepared for rain with waterproof clothes. Classes may be rescheduled due to a severe weather alert such as unsafe air conditions. |
Attire Policy- Groundwork and Riding
Footwear- No sandals or pointy Western boots. No rain boots. Not smooth soled court shoes. Sneakers with good treads with half chaps. Boots with a small heel even hiking sneakers are okay here due to our use of toe stoppers. Protective Gloves- For a better hand grip and protection always...even in summer. Extra gloves are available if you forget. Clothing- Long pants are required. No shorts. No capris or ankles showing. Recommend long sleeves even in summer to protect against thorns and stinging nettles. Raingear is suggested in the fall and spring. Half/full seat pants are recommended for comfort, performance, and safety after couple months of lesson. Jeans are okay but not the best. Use with half chaps. Equestrian Helmet- No riding without one. You may use your own bike helmet if you accept this noted risk. Or borrow a riding helmet for 1st month or 2. Protective Eyewear- Eye Protection recommended from wandering branches and thorny blackberry vines that are difficult to see especially in late summer/fall. |
Riding Restriction Rules
We reserve the right to not permit riding that day or continued riding in the program for the safety and health of the horse, that rider, other riders, and by-standers.
No Refunds will be issued as a result of any violation of rules and an immediate dismissal. This is applies for under these main conditions below and other related situations.
Restrictions To Participate in Programs:
No riders outside of age, weight, or height parameter. Not being able to balance yourself in the saddle when the horse is in motion.
This is for safety of the riders and horses. Riders over weight or height limit as well as being unbalanced can cause back and joint injuries to horses.
Being on the property at unscheduled times and with unconfirmed visitors, dogs, etc. at unscheduled times which is trespassing.
It is a safety risk to the horses and participants as well as to the visitors or dogs who are trespassing on private property.
No feeding of outside food to the horses as it endangers their health. Horses can also become aggressive with improper treating or can mistakenly bite fingers.
Horses can not vomit like a dog. They can become extremely sick from eating the wrong thing and even die. Icelandics have a very restricted diet being isolated in Iceland and do not eat things all horses do.
Restrictions To Keep on Riding in the Program:
Any action that is considered repetitive and a negative impact that endangers you as the rider and/or other riders and causes re-training of the horse.
You may be placed in separate session or work on groundwork or fitness first before returning to class with others.
No dismounting from horse for any reason just anywhere. You can kick the horse dismounting, have it run off, and need to walk home. It is dangerous and unnecessary to jump off a moving horse.
You can get tangled up in tack and dragged or break bones in your fall. Our horses know the trails and will go only a certain distance staying together as a herd.
No dismounting a horse closer than 50ft from the barn or where you are told to get off.
Dismounting too close to the barn trains horses to go to the barn and even run inside with a rider on when the horse chooses to finish the lesson early.
No gaps of more than 1/2 of a horse length of its body behind one another. Ideally practically nose to tail at all times. It is safer.
Icelandic Horses will stay together more and not need to speed up to reduce the gap which will get larger and larger.
No allowing the horse to run down hills or start too early up hills due to a lack of rider's proper contact on the horses mouth.
You need to ride the horse in control. This can undo the horse's training and lead to the horse run away with riders.
No directing the horse to jump over anything- large or small.
We do not instruct in jumping. The horses are trained not to jump. Our tack is not safe for jumping. This can lead to serious injuries for rider as well as horse re-training.
Mounting the horse by plopping yourself on the horse and bouncing in the saddle to straighten yourself out.
Icelandics have a stiffer back due to their confirmation and cannot withstand this lazy form of mounting. It makes the horse resistant to having riders mount them which is not easily re-trained.
